About PANTHER research & ARDS
PANTHER is a research study looking at finding treatments to help people with breathing problems such as acute distress respiratory syndrome (ARDS). ARDS is a serious lung condition commonly seen in intensive care units (ICUs), making it hard for patients to breathe. While inflammation helps the body fight infections, it can sometimes get out of control and harm the lungs.
Around 1 in 4 ICU patients who need a ventilator (a machine that helps them breathe) have ARDS. ARDS leads to a high risk of death and long-term health problems, and currently, there are no proven medications to treat it.
